Make sure to set aside an entire day for your visit to Giethoorn, as the train ride alone takes 1 hour and 47 minutes. First, take the train to Steenwijk station, then catch bus number 70 or 270 from the bus stop in front of the station to Giethoorn, which takes about 15 minutes. So, from Utrecht Central Station to Giethoorn, it takes at least two and a half hours, which is enough time to travel from Amsterdam to Brussels! The village got its name because early residents unearthed a large number of goat horns while digging for coal. Originally a secluded small settlement, Giethoorn gained fame after a movie was filmed there in 1958, and it has since become a major tourist destination!
