#7月好去处2025 Pinang Peranakan Mansion is a must-see attraction for exploring the history and culture of the Chinese in Penang. It was originally the residence of Zhang Bishi, a wealthy businessman in the 19th century. It combines Chinese, Malay and colonial-style architecture to fully present the unique lifestyle and aesthetic taste of the Peranakans (i.e., the native Chinese). Entering the museum, you can see more than a thousand exhibits such as antique furniture, porcelain, bead embroidery and clothing, especially the exquisite stained glass windows and gilded wood carvings, which show the attention to detail and art of the Peranakan society at that time. The museum also reproduces the kitchen, banquet hall and private prayer space, like traveling through time and space into the life scenes of the wealthy Chinese in the 19th century. If you are interested in the cultural background, it is recommended to take a guided tour to better understand the social status, wedding customs, diet and family structure at that time.
