Hotel Beau-Rivage Geneva Established in 1865, Beau-Rivage Geneve boasts a nearly 150-year history. Located in the heart of Geneva, the hotel offers breathtaking views of Lake Geneva's iconic Jet d'Eau fountain and the snow-capped Mont Blanc from its spacious terraces. Owned and operated by the Mayer family for four generations, it preserves a unique family heritage rarely seen in the hospitality industry. For nearly two centuries, Beau-Rivage Geneve has been the preferred accommodation for royalty, heads of state, and celebrities. Notable guests include former U.S. First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt, renowned German composer Wagner, and Empress Elisabeth of Austria (Sisi). On September 10, 1898, after being attacked by the lake, Empress Sisi was brought to her suite at Beau-Rivage where she passed away in the arms of Madame Mayer. The hotel preserves her mourning dress, and her former suite remains decorated in Sisi's theme. A special display case in the corridor outside showcases personal items like her fan. In the mid-20th century, when First Lady Anna Eleanor Roosevelt served as the first U.S. Ambassador to the UN and drafted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Beau-Rivage was her Geneva residence. In 1987, Sotheby's chose the hotel for the auction of the Duchess of Windsor's jewelry collection and subsequently established its Swiss headquarters here, where it remains today.
