The ancient city wall of Ganzhou, which has significant historical value

Ganzhou city wall is located on the banks of the Zhangjiang and Gongjiang rivers in the Zhanggong District of Ganzhou City, Jiangxi Province. The ancient city of Ganzhou was founded during the Jin Dynasty. The well-preserved brick city wall that stands today was built during the Northern Song Dynasty. The Ganzhou city wall stretches from Xijin Gate along the Zhangjiang River to Bajingtai, and from Bajingtai along the Gongjiang River passing through Yongjin Gate, Jianchun Gate to the side of the former Baisheng Gate, now near the Donghe Bridge, totaling 3,664 meters. The wall height ranges from 5 to 7 meters, and the width of the wall surface is between 4 to 6 meters; it retains four city gates: the North Gate, Xijin Gate, Jianchun Gate, and Yongjin Gate, two artillery forts at Bajingtai and Xijin Gate, one horse face, and some guard posts. It is a type of defensive architecture of ancient Chinese cities, with walls connecting the towers, serving both military defense and urban flood control, forming a solid barrier for the ancient city. The Ganzhou city wall is of great historical value for the study of ancient Chinese military defense, urban flood control, and urban construction and development.
