Why didn't anyone tell me that Galle is a city that breathes

After returning from Sri Lanka, what left the deepest impression on me was the small city of Galle. Galle doesn't have the hustle and bustle of Colombo, nor is it as quiet as Negombo. It's more like an old book blending multiple cultures. The Portuguese came, the Dutch came, the British came, but now, it belongs to no one—it is simply itself, Galle. 🧡 The Galle Fort area isn't very large, and you can easily explore it on foot. The streets in the fort are narrow, lined with charming restaurants, romantic little shops, and many interesting galleries and art spaces. Due to its colonial past, many buildings feature Dutch-style architecture—bright colors, vintage designs, and every corner is picture-perfect. 🧡 The Galle Fort is a well-preserved structure from the colonial era, with intact walls that allow you to walk a full loop around the old town. I highly recommend visiting during early morning or evening. Mornings are peaceful and quiet, while evenings offer stunning sunset views. 🧡 The walk from Lighthouse Street to the lighthouse is one of the most beautiful paths in Galle. The entire road is clean and lined with gorgeous Dutch-style buildings. Many galleries and art spaces along the way hide delightful surprises, so take your time to explore. The lighthouse, though not very large, is a prominent landmark with its pure white exterior. 🧡 There are several shops in the fort worth visiting. My shopping experience in Galle was even more fulfilling than in Colombo, mainly because the city has such a relaxed vibe, making it a pleasure to browse. ✔ Lanka Living Gallery: A beautiful gallery with a tea shop at the back offering fragrant, high-quality Ceylon tea in many varieties! ✔ Barefoot: Also has a branch in Colombo, this rustic handicraft store sells wood carvings, pottery, linen products, aromatherapy items, and decorative pieces. ✔ Spa Ceylon: A popular Sri Lankan brand with affordable prices. Their aromatherapy, sleep sprays, and skincare lines make great souvenirs. ✔ Stick No Bills: A vintage gallery featuring early 20th-century advertisements, posters, and postcards.
