Fuzhou Zhenhai Tower, a sight of a millennium on the first floor

Fuzhou Zhenhai Tower is located in the northeast corner of the Gulou District, originally built during the Hongwu period of the Ming Dynasty as a model for various city gate towers. It was later destroyed by fire and rebuilt in the eleventh year of the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty. The rebuilt Zhenhai Tower is 25 meters high, with two floors; the lower level is a stone pier, and the upper level is a wooden structure pavilion. There are stone railings around the tower, and on the railings, there are 108 uniquely shaped wooden carved monkeys. According to legend, after the reconstruction of Zhenhai Tower, Fuzhou has not encountered any major storms. Some say that the Zhenhai Tower has suppressed the Dragon King, hence the typhoon 'Dragon King' cannot stir up trouble. However, from a scientific perspective, this is mainly due to the 'subtropical high' over the eastern sea, which acts like an invisible wall blocking the typhoons.
