A thousand-year-old shrine by the stream with the image of Uncle Fuji in the background. This shrine, designated as a World Heritage Site in the Mount Fuji area, is dedicated to the deity Asama no Okami, believed to reside within the crater of the volcano. It is believed that this shrine will protect Mount Fuji from eruptions. Location: Fujisan Hongu Sengen Taisha Fujinomiya City, Shizuoka Getting there: From Tokyo Station, take the JR Ltd. Exp. Odoriko to Mishima Station (1 hour and 40 minutes). Then, transfer to the Tokaido Line and get off at Fuji Station (25 minutes). Then, transfer to the Minobu Line and get off at Fujinomiya Station (20 minutes). It's a 10-minute walk to the shrine.
