With an area of about 83 km², the island of Formentera south of Ibiza can rightly be called small, it does have a wide range of turquoise water and paradisiacal beaches. This is due to the 'posidonia oceanica' phenomenon - a hedge of tall seagrass plants surrounding the island that filters the water and gives it this beautiful turquoise color.
