The Qutang Gorge and Kui Gate are majestic and perilous, offering a chance to explore the millennium charm of Baidi City

⛩️ Baidi City, originally named Ziyang City, got its name during the late Western Han dynasty when Wang Mang usurped the throne. His general, Gongsun Shu, took control of Sichuan, stationed troops, and stockpiled grain here, proclaiming himself the King of Shu. As his power grew, he aspired to become the emperor and thus declared himself the 'White Emperor' at the mouth of the Qutang Gorge, which is how the city got its name. ⛩️ Later, during the Ming dynasty, the governor of Sichuan destroyed Gongsun Shu's statues and, based on the famous story of the 'White Emperor Entrusting His Son' from the Three Kingdoms period, enshrined statues of Liu Bei, Zhuge Liang, and other Shu Han heroes in the Baidi Temple.
