Jiaow Pass

An amazing refuge with very good staff. The private room was the best room we had throughout our trip. The food was excellent, and they had a good selection of interesting grappa for us to try. The prices were very reasonable. This refuge has a rich history. Built at the end of the 19th century, it was the headquarters of Austria during World War I. After being destroyed by Italian artillery bombardment, it was faithfully rebuilt. It is now owned by the National Alpine Association, which organizes many gatherings near the small church behind it. Although a good pair of legs is required to overcome the altitude difference, it is an easy trek from Alba di Canazei. From the refuge, there is a beautiful view of the south face of Marmolada, the Queen of the Dolomites. Have you ever wondered how many people you will meet in your lifetime? How many times will a stranger rely on a close friend? How many times will you say hello, I'm *insert name*. Many people on this earth are really all the same. We have the same desires and needs. The essence of being on top of the great is to be happy. To live peacefully. To feel free. These moments in the mountains are where I feel them the most. When I sit in the city editing my content from the mountains, I wonder what made me so happy about the world? Why was I laughing so loudly? And I remember being surrounded by those high mountains, the great outdoors, good people, incredibly grounded, free, happy, and grateful. That's all. The feeling I chase. The feeling I love. Life is great. Grateful for everything.
