Qatar is really photogenic, but...

Shanghai to Nairobi, Kenya, with a layover in Doha ✈️ There are a lot of guides online about free food and accommodation, but it's not that easy to get! This is a guide based on my experience on January 31, with information that no one else has mentioned! . 👇First, here's a city walk route for a day in Doha Doha Airport ➡️ National Museum of Qatar ➡️ Museum of Islamic Art ➡️ Souq Waqif ➡️ Katara Cultural Village ➡️ Airport 🗺️ Detailed route map on P9~ . 1️⃣ Free transit hotel and meal vouchers The conditions are a bit harsh. We applied for a transit hotel on the Qatar Airways website in advance and were told we needed to pay. We got the same result when we applied at the transit counter at the airport, and there were no free meal vouchers. So I suggest you rely on the online application results and don't get your hopes up. Make other plans! . 2️⃣ Doha is small, 1 day is enough The city is really nice, but it's also really small. We thought 12 hours would be tight, but we were able to visit all the iconic attractions in about 6 hours. It's not as hot in winter, but the UV rays are still strong, so a day is really enough! . 3️⃣ It's really expensive The best value at the airport is KFC in Zone C 😀 I recommend the Arabic breakfast at Souq Waqif. It's not cheap, but it's acceptable. . 4️⃣ Most places accept credit cards But! Make sure you have a chip card! I tried using a magnetic stripe card to pay for a taxi, but it didn't work. Some stores also failed to process the payment. If you can't pay with a card at the subway card machine, you can go to the manned counter. . 5️⃣ You can't take an Uber from the airport You can only take a bus, subway, or taxi. A taxi from the airport to the National Museum of Qatar costs about RMB 100, and you may not get change if you pay in cash. . 6️⃣ You can pay in US dollars But you'll get change in the local currency. There aren't many places where you can use cash, so if you want to exchange a small amount of money, you can do it this way and save on fees. . 7️⃣ Try to avoid Fridays On Fridays, the subway, museums, markets, and stores open later than usual. If you arrive on a Friday morning like we did, you'll have to wait until 9 am to take the subway. The museums open at 1:30 pm, and most of the stores at Souq Waqif also open in the afternoon. . 8️⃣ Bring a power adapter You can charge your phone at the airport, but you'll need to bring your own adapter. . 9️⃣ You don't need to buy a SIM card There is Wi-Fi at the airport and subway stations. You can buy a 1-day data plan in advance, which is enough. . 🔟 Try not to bring luggage There is no free luggage storage at the airport, and dragging your luggage around on a city walk is really painful!
