The Essence of the Great Wall at Dingbian~Liushujian Fort

Dingbian Liushujian Fort, on this ancient land, once nurtured a prominent figure—Zhang Xianzhong, whose legendary life began here. Yulin, as an ancient military stronghold, was once one of the nine important border towns of the Ming dynasty, with thirty-six military forts built along the line, guarding the peace of this land. These ancient military forts have witnessed the vicissitudes of history; some still maintain the prosperity of a market town, while others have been abandoned, becoming relics of time. Zhang Xianzhong, a famous rebel leader at the end of the Ming dynasty, was born in this very Dingbian Liushujian Fort. He left this land to write a magnificent chapter in history with his life. Today, as I set foot on this land, Liushujian Fort is no longer as bustling as it once was. The fort has become a slope, with buildings hard to find, only a few small houses and rammed earth walls telling of the past. The fort is located on the hillside of Liushujian Village, and the mountain stream suggested by its name is nearly dry, becoming a paradise for cattle and sheep to frolic. The former stream bed is now covered with lush grass, as if narrating the passage of time. To commemorate this legendary figure, a statue of Zhang Xianzhong has been erected by the locals, perhaps with the hope that tourism will allow more people to understand the story of this hero. Sitting by the city wall, gazing into the distance, the rich colors and beautiful scenery are intoxicating. The blue sky, white clouds, green trees, green grass, and yellow land weave together into a beautiful tapestry, allowing one to feel the magic and charm of nature. Although from the perspective of mass tourism, the location here is not advantageous, being dozens of kilometers away from the county town. But for those who like to explore historical and cultural sites, this place is a treasure. Feeling the ancient fort's changes under the setting sun, one can almost hear the echoes of history whispering in one's ear. Such an experience is intoxicating, making one linger and forget to return.
