Chand Baori, a geometric stepwell in the shape of a perfect inverted pyramid

#MarchGoodPlaces2025 Built a thousand years ago, the mysterious underground palace of India - Chand Baori. On the way to the Pink City of Jaipur, we first went to the nearby Abhaneri. The destination was naturally this inverted triangle moon well and the Harshat Mata Temple opposite. This inverted pyramid-like step well is 13 stories deep and has 3,500 steps. It presents an intricate and regular geometric structure and looks very spectacular. It is hard to imagine that it has been well preserved after thousands of years. It can be said to be the deepest and largest underground water well in the world. The east, west and south sides of the well are geometric steps that extend 30 meters down. The deeper you go, the cooler it feels. On the north side is a corridor-style building with a carving of the Indian goddess of war Durga.
