The biggest treasure on the island is the historic Hotel del Coronado, the first five-star hotel in the United States and the largest all-wooden hotel in the world. Since its opening in 1887, it has attracted countless wealthy and famous people. The hotel has also been used as a backdrop for many famous movies. The Hotel del Coronado was built in 1888 and still retains its 19th-century style interior decoration. It has always been a popular destination for dignitaries, celebrities, and couples. As of 2012, 16 presidents, including Obama, have visited here, and Nixon and Reagan held state banquets and summit meetings here to receive the Mexican president.
