| A model of late Chinese cave art. The Dazu Rock Carvings were first built in the early Tang Dynasty, and reached their peak during the late Tang, Five Dynasties, and Song Dynasties. The "Five Mountains" of Baoding Mountain, Beishan Mountain, Nanshan Mountain, Shimen Mountain, and Shizhuan Mountain are the only World Cultural Heritage sites in Chongqing. The Baoding Mountain Dafowan Rock Carvings, built between 1174 and 1252 during the Southern Song Dynasty, are considered the pinnacle of the Dazu Rock Carvings. The Baoding Mountain Rock Carvings were built under the supervision of the Dazu monk Zhao Zhifeng, and depict the daily life of the Southern Song Dynasty in stone, making them the last great monument in the history of world cave art. Baoding Mountain Reclining Buddha, known as the largest half-body Buddha in China. It is about 31 meters long and depicts Shakyamuni lying on his side on a stone cliff. 2. Baoding Mountain Thousand-Hand Guanyin, the first large-scale immovable cultural relic restoration project in China. Carved in the mid-to-late Southern Song Dynasty, it is over 800 years old. The Dazu Rock Carvings Museum has a detailed record of the Thousand-Hand Guanyin restoration project. This rescue restoration took 8 years and involved 15 institutions and over 100 cultural relic workers. 3. Beishan Mountain Wheel Sutra Cave. A cave with the theme of one Buddha and eight Bodhisattvas, known as "a pearl in the crown of Chinese cave art."
