Wat Phra Singh (Chiang Rai Province)

Wat Phra Singh is an ancient temple in Chiang Rai province. It is a royal monastery built during the reign of King Mahaprom, the younger brother of King Kuena Thammikarat, who was the ruler of Chiang Mai at the time. This was during the period when King Mahaprom ruled Chiang Rai. 🙏 Wat Phra Singh was once the enshrined location of Phra Singh or Phra Buddha Sihing, an important and revered Buddha image for Thai people and Buddhists. Currently, there is still another Phra Buddha Sihing or Phra Singh Chiang Saen, a bronze gilded image, enshrined on a busabok (pedestal) inside the abbot's kuti (residence) for worship. The Phra Singh image enshrined in the ordination hall has a dignified and exquisite appearance. The interior of the ordination hall features Lanna Thai architecture from the Chiang Saen period, originally made of hardwood. The door panels are intricately carved with detailed craftsmanship. There is also an ancient chedi (stupa) which is an example of Lanna architecture. The temple has undergone several restorations and has been established as a royal monastery.
