Construction began in 1934 CE during the reign of Phraya Saen Muang. Later, during the reign of Phraya Yat Lokaraj, he ordered its height to be 80 meters. It has a square base 56 meters wide on each side. The shape was also modified to resemble Lha Prasat Loha of Sri Lanka. The shape of the chedi is Pagan-style. The four corner arches of the great chedi were modified. It is surrounded by elephant statues.
