The craftsmen had to expand the pagoda to be taller and wider than before and invited the Emerald Buddha to be enshrined there for a period of 80 years. Later, in 1545 during the reign of Queen Jiraprapa, an earthquake occurred, causing the top of the pagoda to collapse.
