Chiang Mai Train Station | A 1990s Vibe on the Train - Fan Carriages are a Total Throwback

After living in Chiang Mai for over half a year, I wanted to try taking a Thai train. Everyone says they're great for photos, with a retro, artistic, and timeworn romanticism that evokes memories of "Romance in the Rain." I took a ride, and it's true – the train has a strong sense of nostalgia, even the Thai people in the carriages seem to belong to that era. It's perfect for taking photos and videos. However, I'd say it's okay for short trips, but avoid long journeys. The hard seats are tiring, and the windows are always open, making it uncomfortable after a while with the constant wind. When I went to Bangkok, people suggested the Red Velvet train, which is similar but with sleeper berths. You can sit during the day and lie down at night. The service is average, but the tickets are really cheap. From Chiang Mai to Bangkok, there are several options ranging from a little over 500 to over 1,000 THB. Converted to RMB, a hard seat in a fan carriage is about 80, a hard seat with AC is over 100, and an AC hard sleeper is around 200. A flight is about 300 RMB for a morning departure. I think it's worth trying the train once for the experience, but flying is definitely more convenient and faster. Many friends think it's a good idea to sleep on the train overnight, saving on accommodation and around 100 RMB on transport. An overnight AC hard sleeper is recommended!
