The Zhaobi (Screen Wall) of Wenshu Monastery

The Zhaobi (Screen Wall) of Wenshu Monastery is an iconic architectural feature of the temple, located directly in front of the main gate. It measures approximately 15.85 meters in length and about 7.7 to 8 meters in height. Constructed from blue bricks, it has a bright yellow hue symbolizing the sacred Buddhist site. In the center, there are golden characters reading 'Wenshu Monastery,' written by Master Haiyue during the Kangxi era in 1702. On either side, there are couplets honoring the history and influence of Wenshu Monastery, along with the phrase 'Namo Amitabha.' The screen wall, derived from Feng Shui principles, serves to prevent direct visibility into the interior from the outside. It embodies both Buddhist faith and artistic value, holding significant historical and cultural importance.
