Wenshu Monastery (Wenshu Zen Monastery), also known as 'Konglin Hall', is a key Buddhist temple in the Han Chinese area designated by the State Council, the foremost of the four major Zen forests along the Yangtze River, and a key cultural relic protection unit in Sichuan Province. It is a Buddhist holy site that integrates Zen forest relics, ancient garden architecture, pilgrimage sightseeing, and religious study. Wenshu Monastery is located in the central area of Chengdu, Sichuan Province (No. 66 Wenshu Monastery Street, Qingyang District), with a history of over 1,400 years. Wenshu Monastery is the most well-preserved Buddhist temple in Chengdu, facing south with its back to the north. The architecture is a typical ancient building style of the western Sichuan plain, mainly wooden structures. The temple has six main halls, with the Mountain Gate followed by the Hall of Heavenly Kings, Hall of Three Great Bodhisattvas, Mahavira Hall, Dharma Hall, and Sutra Library. Together with the Bell Tower, Dining Hall, and Corridor Houses on the east and west sides, it forms a harmonious whole, representing typical Qing Dynasty architecture. Despite experiencing wars and hardships, Wenshu Monastery remains a sacred site for Buddhist disciples to this day. This is partly due to its profound historical heritage, but more importantly, because Wenshu Monastery enshrines revered statues and relics of the four groups of Buddhist disciples (namely the relics of the two saints of Konglin Buddha and the skull relic of Master Xuanzang). Buddha relics are the most precious sacred objects in Buddhism and have been enshrined to this day.
