Chengde Mountain Resort Scenic Area

Chengde Mountain Resort is located at No. 6, Shanzhuang East Road, Shuangqiao District, Chengde City, Hebei Province.  - History: Construction began in 1703 and took about 90 years to complete during the reigns of the Kangxi, Yongzheng, and Qianlong emperors. It was an important place for the Qing emperors to escape the summer heat and handle political affairs, and was the second political center outside the capital. - Garden features: The resort combines the elegance of southern gardens with the grandeur of northern gardens. It was designed based on China's geographical features, with the northwest mountain area, southeast lake area, and northern plain area forming a microcosm of China's geography. Over 120 buildings are scattered among the mountains, rivers, and trees, creating a magnificent landscape that combines the elegance of the south and the grandeur of the north, and brings together famous scenic spots from across the country. - Main attractions: The palace area is located in the south of the resort and includes four groups of buildings: the Main Palace, East Palace, Songhezhai, and Wanheshongfeng. The lake area is collectively known as "Saihu." The Wanshu Garden in the plain area has yurts set up according to Mongolian customs. The mountain area has towering peaks, and more than 40 buildings were built during the reigns of the Kangxi and Qianlong emperors. Other attractions include Jinshan Pavilion, Wenjin Pavilion, and Yanyu Tower. - Cultural value: It is the largest existing classical royal garden in China, one of the four famous gardens in China, a national 5A-level tourist attraction, one of the first national key cultural relics protection units, and was included in the World Heritage List by UNESCO in 1994.
