[Catania, Italy] Catania Cathedral

#FreeHotelStay Cathedral in the old town of Catania. Built in the mid-11th century, it was rebuilt in the Baroque style after the great earthquake of 1693. The gorgeous façade was designed by famous architect Giovan Battista Vaccarini. The cathedral is dedicated to Saint Agatha, a saint of Catania. Inside the cathedral is an altar for Saint Agatha and the tomb of composer Bellini. The slightly black parts seen on the exterior are actually made from solidified lava from Mount Etna due to a lack of materials during reconstruction.
