Siem Reap: My New Happy Place at Angkor Wat

Since my trip to Yogyakarta, Indonesia last year, I've developed a keen interest in temple ruins. This year, I finally visited the long-awaited Angkor Wat, and Siem Reap truly surprised me! Here's a travel guide to share: 1️⃣ From Airport to City: The airport shuttle costs $8 per person to the city duty-free shop. Staff at the airport may offer taxi services, and a shared ride for four to the city is only $7 per person, directly to your hotel! 2️⃣ City Transportation: Using Grab to book a tuk-tuk is convenient, costing just $1-2 within the city. We opted for motorcycles 🛵, and I must praise Siem Reap's traffic—it's very pleasant, with slow speeds, no honking, and courteous drivers. The roads are in good condition. I recommend Pear Meng Motorcycle Rental, run by a Chinese owner. You can pay in USD 💲 or RMB. Our bike wasn't in great condition, so the owner waived the fuel fee. Test drive first and have the owner adjust the throttle and brakes for safety before starting your motorcycle journey. 3️⃣ Weather: Siem Reap is hot 🥵, and it gets very humid after rain, with many mosquitoes! You'll sweat a lot, but mornings and evenings are cool, and shaded areas are comfortable, much better than the sauna-like Guangdong. Wear breathable, quick-dry clothes, and bring cooling and mosquito-repellent items like cooling spray and repellent. ⚠️ In temples, women should not expose shoulders or knees. 4️⃣ Attractions: We explored the small and big circuits by motorcycle, and for the outer circuit, we shared a car with friends from the airport. The outer circuit is far, so it's best to rent a car. ⭕️ Recommended small and big circuits: Angkor Wat (most exquisite), Bayon Temple (smile of Khmer), Ta Prohm (Tomb Raider filming location, trees growing wildly), Preah Khan (beauty in ruins). ⭕️ Outer circuit: Beng Mealea (nature reclaiming civilization), Banteay Srei (small but exquisite); ❌ Skip Roluos Group (Bakong, Preah Ko, Lolei) and spend more time at Banteay Srei for its intricate carvings. Accommodation, food, and massage will be in the second part Cambodian food and massages rival Thailand's!!! The service is excellent! I don't want to leave. Update: At Siem Reap airport, after check-in and before departure, they check carry-on luggage weight. Budget airline passengers, beware. Wearing a budget airline vest, I passed without issue.
