Transportation Guide • Airplane: Altay Xuedu Airport. Direct flights are available from Beijing, Xi'an, Urumqi, and other cities. A taxi from the airport to the city center costs about CNY 30. • Train: Altay Railway Station (southern suburbs of the city). Urumqi to Altay takes about 11 hours (Train K9735). Sleeper berths are more comfortable. 3-Day Itinerary • Day 1: Altay City - Hemu Village ◦ Morning: Depart from Altay City and take a scenic shuttle bus or chartered car to Hemu Village. Enjoy the beautiful grassland scenery along the way. After arriving at Hemu Village, check in to a characteristic wooden house. ◦ Afternoon: Stroll along the Hemu River, admire the beautiful birch forest, and experience the tranquility and beauty of nature. ◦ Evening: Enjoy local delicacies in Hemu Village, such as hand-pulled mutton and grilled mutton skewers. • Day 2: Hemu Village - Kanas Scenic Area ◦ Morning: Get up early and go to the Harden viewing platform to enjoy the sunrise and morning mist over Hemu Village. Return to the village for breakfast. ◦ Afternoon: Take the shuttle bus to Kanas Scenic Area and visit Kanas Lake, Shenxian Bay, Moon Bay, and Wolong Bay. ◦ Evening: Stay in a wooden house in Kanas Scenic Area and experience the tranquility and mystery of the primeval forest. • Day 3: Kanas Scenic Area - Baihaba Village - Five-Colored Beach - Altay City ◦ Morning: Take the shuttle bus to Baihaba Village and visit the "First Village in Northwest China" stone monument, the new village viewing platform, and the lone tree. ◦ Afternoon: Return to Burqin County, passing by the Five-Colored Beach on the way. Food Recommendations • Hand-pulled mutton: Altay's mutton is tender and juicy, without a strong smell, and is one of the local specialties. • Grilled mutton skewers: Xinjiang's grilled mutton skewers are famous throughout the country, and Altay's are no exception. The meat is tender and flavorful. • Narin: Horse meat noodles, a traditional Kazakh delicacy, is delicious. • Baursaki: A type of fried dough, served with milk tea, is very tasty. Things to Note • Seasonal differences: In summer (June-August), the temperature difference between day and night in Altay is significant, so it is recommended to wear warm clothing. • Scenic spot restrictions: Tickets for Kanas need to be booked 3 days in advance during peak season, and some attractions are closed in winter. • Environmental protection tips: Do not trample on grasslands or litter.
