#europeanarchitecture #100waysoftravel The Buda Castle, also known as the Royal Palace is the former residence and palace complex of Hungarian kings in Budapest. It was first completed in year 1265 but the Baroque palace was mainly constructed between 1749 and 1769. After the formation of republic, it houses the Hungarian National Gallery, Budapest Historical Museum and National Szechenyi Library. The palace complex also consists of the Matthias Church and the Fisherman's Bastion as part of the fortification efforts on the palace. The gallery houses many old artifacts and relics from the olden days, and there used to be a Labyrinth but it is closed for renovations. The palace was inscribed under UNESCO World Heritage in 1987.
