It is located in the Tegel district of Berlin, close to the Rhine River, and is the symbol and management center of the Borsig factory. Built between 1922 and 1924, it is Berlin's first tall building, 65 meters high and with 12 floors. The designer was Eugen Schmohl, who was inspired by American skyscrapers and Gothic architecture to create a unique style that combines a steel frame structure with a red brick exterior, as well as expressionist roofs and windows. Its interior has multiple offices and conference rooms, as well as a gorgeous banquet hall, demonstrating the strength and status of the Borsig factory. The Borsig factory is the largest locomotive manufacturer in Europe. It was founded by August Borsig in 1827. It once occupied a vast area of ​​land in the Tegel district and produced various machinery and equipment such as steam engines, boilers, bridges, ships, etc. It went bankrupt in the economic crisis of 1929 and was later acquired and reorganized by other companies. Now, most of the buildings of the Borsig factory have been demolished or renovated, leaving only the Borsigturm and some warehouses and factories. The Borsigturm was bombed during World War II but did not collapse. It became a symbol of the Tegel district. It was restored in the 1970s and continues to be used as an office building. Some new buildings have also been developed around it, such as hotels, shopping malls, entrepreneurship centers, etc. I took the subway from the center of Berlin to Borsigwerke station, and then walked a few minutes to the entrance of Borsigturm. I didn't buy a ticket for the visit, so I could only look at its appearance from the outside. I think it is a very distinctive and imposing building, its red bricks and steel frames sparkling in the sun, the top of the tower and the windows have a mysterious and artistic feeling. I also walked around it and saw some old industrial buildings and new commercial buildings, and felt the changes and development of this area. I think Borsigturm is a place worth visiting. It allowed me to understand Berlin’s industrial history and culture, and also made me appreciate the aesthetics and creativity of the architecture.
