Gods and Imperial Power in the Mongol City of Pergamon

Visiting the ruins of the ancient city of Pergamon in Izmir, Turkey, I was deeply moved by its vicissitudes of history and the accumulation of culture. It is the most worthwhile ruins to visit. This ancient city has witnessed the glory and decline of the past. Every stone and every piece of rubble seems to be telling stories of the past. Standing in the ruins, I felt the weight of history and also experienced the fragility and tenacity of human civilization.
