Pudu Temple

Pudu Temple (Pudu Temple), originally the site of the Yuan Taiyi Shrine, was part of the old site of the Hongqing Palace in the Ming Dynasty's southern city, originally known as the Imperial City East Garden, also known as 'Little Southern City', covering nearly 10,000 square meters, it was the residence of the crown prince. In the early Qing Dynasty, it became the mansion of the regent Dorgon. After the abolition of the royal residence, Emperor Kangxi ordered it to be rebuilt into the Mahakala Temple, one of the royal temples surrounding the Forbidden City. In the thirty-third year of Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty (1694), the Mahakala Temple was rebuilt. In the forty-first year of Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty (1776), the Mahakala Temple was granted the name Pudu Temple. The existing main buildings include the Shanmen Hall and the Grand Hall, with the Grand Hall inscribed with 'Ciji Hall', written by Emperor Gaozong.
