Temple No. 75, Wat Samphaya Worawihan

Wat Samphaya is a third-class royal temple, a common type. It was originally a temple of the people. It is located in Wat Samphaya Subdistrict, Phra Nakhon District, Bangkok. Some locals call the temple Wat Sak or Wat Bang Khun Phrom. It is assumed that it was built since the Ayutthaya period. The construction and renovation of the temple were carried out in sequence. Later, in the reign of King Rama III, there were three siblings, Phraya Ratchaphakdi (Singthong), Phraya Thep-orchun (Thongpan), and Phraya Ratchawaranukul (Thongkham). According to history, their father was named Mato Pen, who migrated from Mon country. However, their mother’s name is unknown. The three siblings rebuilt the temple and presented it to His Majesty as a royal temple. King Nangklao bestowed the temple with the name “Wat Samphaya”.
