#AprilGoodDestinations2025 The National Library of Greece is located in the core area between Omonia Square and the Acropolis. It forms a neoclassical building complex with the Academy of Athens and the University of Athens. It was designed by the Danish Hansen brothers in 1888. It uses 68 Doric columns to construct a three-section facade. The column body without complicated carvings and the blank triangular lintel create a strong sense of geometry. The museum has a collection of 4,500 Greek manuscripts, including a parchment scroll of the Four Gospels from the Byzantine period and a 15th-century gilded manuscript of Homer's epic poems. Remember to pay attention: the 12 colonnades at the entrance form a "light and shadow maze", and the midday sun shines through the columns to form piano-key-shaped light spots; the reading room on the second floor retains the 19th-century walnut revolving book ladder, and you can take pictures of the details of the dome mural "Guidance of the Goddess of Wisdom".
