The trail follows a disused railway, crossing six bridges and 10 tunnels, and is surrounded by national parkland. Usui Third Bridge has a total of 4 arched archways, so it is nicknamed "Spectacle Bridge". The bridge was built in 1892 in collaboration with British engineer Charles Assheton Whately Pownall during the Meiji era (1868-1912), a period of rapid modernization in Japanese society. The bridge was once a railway link between Gunma Yokogawa and Nagano Karuizawa. After being abandoned in 1963, the Spectacles Bridge was converted into a trail and reopened in 2001. 🗓️Transportation: Take a bus from Yokogawa Station for about 15 minutes
