On October 4, 2023, I left Namtso today, took the 302 provincial road, passed through Barmtso, headed to Bange County, took the 317 national road after lunch, passed through Serling Tso, Serling Tso is the largest lake in the west, the weather today is really bad, along the 317 national road to Bange County, there are many different Tso, such as Chagu Tso, when I was about to reach Nima County, the rain stopped, the sun came out, coupled with the light of dusk, it formed a super beautiful sunset, tonight I will stay in Nima County.

On our fifth day in Tibet, we encountered a local summer festival in Xiongmei Town, Shenzha County, by the beautiful Cuo'e Lake. The event featured singing and dancing performances, Guozhuang dances, horse racing, shooting competitions, and various other activities, along with delicious local snacks. Many families came with elders and children, making it a lively and bustling scene. A few of us girls were lucky enough to try on the local Baza costumes, said to be the attire of ancient princesses. The outfits were colorful, and the headpieces were extravagant yet stunning—though I must admit, I didn’t quite look like a local wearing them. Not far from the event grounds was the Cuo'e Lake Bird Island. Aerial views made it resemble the Maldives, with thousands of birds densely populating the island—a truly spectacular sight. After leaving Cuo'e Lake, we visited the famous Siling Co in Nagqu, the second-largest saltwater lake in China (after Qinghai Lake) and the largest in Tibet. Along the way, we saw herds of yaks and sheep, as well as many Tibetan antelopes and even a lone black-necked crane. By the lakeside, there was a tourist service center, and we spotted some RVs camping and cooking. Climbing up to the viewing platform, we could see panoramic views of both Siling Co and Cuo'e Lake. The two lakes lie close to each other, separated only by a road, creating a breathtaking aerial vista—though the high-altitude hike was exhausting. P.S.: I discovered that Shenzha County has many off-the-beaten-path attractions not found online, so I’ll be staying here a few more days to explore more hidden gems.

However, if you could only choose one lake on this thousand-kilometer journey, Dangray Yumtso would undoubtedly be the winner. Dangray Yumtso covers over 800 square kilometers, ranking fourth among Tibet's many lakes. Its maximum depth of 230 meters is almost twice that of Namtso. The narrow and long lake resembles a vajra. The north-south fractured lake basin forms a massive plateau tectonic lake, and Dangqiong Co, 20 kilometers to the north, can also be considered part of this tectonic lake. Purog Kangri Glacier is located in Shuanghu County, Nagqu City, Tibet Autonomous Region, within the core area of the Qiangtang National Nature Reserve. The Purog Kangri Icefield was first discovered by Chinese and American scientists in 1999 and was confirmed to be the largest glacier outside the Antarctic and Arctic. Due to global warming, the Purog Kangri Icefield is in a state of retreat. Research shows that the area of the Purog Kangri Icefield was over 420 square kilometers in 2000, but by 2021, it had shrunk to about 389 square kilometers.

Recently, newly born Tibetan antelope calves have been photographed multiple times on the Lhunzhub Tang grassland in Maiba Township, Shenzha County, Nagqu City, within the Qiangtang National Nature Reserve in Tibet. In mid-May, in the Qiangtang National Nature Reserve located in the northern part of the Tibet Autonomous Region, large groups of pregnant female Tibetan antelopes begin to assemble and migrate to their customary birthing grounds. The Qiangtang grassland is located in the northern part of Tibet, with most areas still in their pristine state. It preserves a complete and unique alpine ecosystem, nurturing a treasure trove of biodiversity with a wide variety of wildlife. In addition to the Tibetan antelope, wild yaks, and kiangs, the area is also home to snow leopards, black-necked cranes, wolves, vultures, brown bears, and other wildlife, including 10 species under first-class national protection and 21 species under second-class national protection.

The lake also has a "dopamine outfit". Dangre Yongcuo is the fourth largest lake in Tibet, running from north to south, surrounded by mountains on three sides. 2023-10-05 Had a Tibetan breakfast and then went to Dangre Yongcuo. The weather was very good, the sun was shining, and the temperature was a bit low, probably around zero degrees. First passed Dangre Yongcuo and then arrived at Dangqiong Cuo. Dangqiong Cuo is super beautiful and there are rare black-necked cranes. In the afternoon, we arrived at Dangre Yongcuo. Dangre Yongcuo is the deepest lake in Tibet. It seems to be embraced by half of the snow mountain. We walked along the 302 provincial road and passed several lakes such as Nanmu Cuo. In fact, all of them are along the Ali middle line. Around 7:30 we arrived at Coqen County. We looked for a camping spot along the way, but we couldn't find one. It was already very dark, so we slept in the car for the night.
