Hakodate's No.1 Breakfast at the Century Marina Hot Spring Hotel

Hakodate's No.1 Breakfast at the Century Marina Hot Spring Hotel

During a self-drive trip to Hokkaido, I stayed for two nights in Hakodate, and the reason I chose Century Marina was the rooftop open-air hot spring I saw in the photos. Soaking in the bath with a view of the sea, the hotel is both new and chill. But the actual stay was full of even more pleasant surprises. Firstly, the rooftop hot spring is on the 14th floor indoors and the 15th floor outdoors. Not only can you see the sea, but the night view of the area is also unobstructed, and you can even see Mount Hakodate and the Kanemori Warehouse Group. After a bath, you can go to the 14th-floor lounge for a snack, sitting comfortably on the sofa by the floor-to-ceiling windows enjoying the brightly lit night view of Hakodate. Then, the most amazing surprise was the buffet breakfast. The variety was truly six-star resort level, ranging from seafood, salads, Italian, Japanese, Chinese, fruits, desserts, waffles, and even sparkling wine! There were also freshly cooked hot pots, and what's more impressive is that the menu changes daily, which is very thoughtful. A breakfast that was supposed to take only half an hour ended up lasting nearly two hours, and I was so full that I didn't even need to visit the nearby morning market! The location is also very convenient, situated between Hakodate Station and the Kanemori Warehouse, each about a 10-minute walk away. The famous Hakodate morning market is even closer, making it convenient to go anywhere. The hotel is very new, clean, and comfortable to stay in. Upon check-in, you can choose not only a pillow but also an essential oil scent to be placed inside the pillow to help with sleep, which is very considerate! Next time you visit Hakodate, don't forget to experience the rooftop open-air hot spring at the Century Marina Hotel, as well as the No. 1 ranked breakfast in Hakodate hotels.

Wakamatsu Hot Spring Ryokan | Amazing open-air hot spring experience by the sea.

Wakamatsu Hot Spring Ryokan | Amazing open-air hot spring experience by the sea.

| Amazing open-air hot spring experience by the sea. 🎒 Check-in: The staff will help you change your shoes as soon as you enter the door. You can only enter the hotel with the slippers provided by the hotel. While filling in the information, you will be served a cup of matcha 🍵 and a pack of delicious dried fruit. 🍱 Food: The hotel includes dinner and breakfast. Dinner is exquisite kaiseki cuisine, mainly fresh sashimi, and every bite is like a gift from the sea 😋. Breakfast is kappo cuisine (which is a relatively high-end dish in Japan compared to Edo cuisine), with oranges, natto, grilled fish, tofu soup, and many delicious side dishes. ♨ Relaxing hot spring: The hotel has private baths and public open-air baths. Private baths need to be reserved at the front desk. They are in a small room with a beautiful garden in the middle. There, you can enjoy the snow view in the garden while soaking in the hot spring 🧖, which is a wonderful feeling. The public open-air bath is very convenient, and you can go anytime, but it is divided into male and female baths. Here you can see the magnificent sea view and listen to the sound of the waves, which will completely relax your body and mind. The hotel staff recommends not soaking in the hot spring more than 3 times a day, so we arranged it like this: go to the open-air bath once before lunch, rest after dinner, go to the private bath at 8 pm, and finally go to the open-air bath again before breakfast (you can also see the sunrise by the sea 🌄, which is really beautiful). It is said that the Japanese emperor used to live in this hotel, so we also indirectly experienced the life of an emperor 🤩

Discover Hakodate - Japan’s underrated gem

Discover Hakodate - Japan’s underrated gem

Hakodate in southern Hokkaido is one of the best underrated gems in Japan. It’s much less hotter than the mainland Japan in the midst of the scorching summer heat. Hakodate has a number of fun activities, including the ropeway to Hakodate mountain for a scenic night view of the town. It offers truly fresh seafood. One of the local specialties is a squid sashimi - a must try for seafood lovers. As a Mongolian, it was great to discover another Hakodate specialty cuisine was so called Chinggis Khaan - lamb sautéed with onion and scallions. Of course, I had to try it and lemme tell you, I like it. There’s a morning market by the Hakodate station that sells local produce and fresh catch of the day. Check that out as well. #bucketlistreboot

Goryokaku Park: A Star-Shaped Haven

#getgoing2025 Goryokaku Park, with its unique star-shaped layout, was a blend of history and tranquility. I strolled through cherry-lined paths, the soft petals creating a pink carpet beneath my feet. The view from the Goryokaku Tower was stunning, revealing the full star-shaped fort surrounded by shimmering water. This peaceful park is a perfect retreat steeped in Hakodate’s fascinating history. 📍Goryokaku Tower, Hakodate, Japan #japan #hokkaido #hakodate #goryokaku #spring #travel #familytravel #myitinerary #thingstodo

Private hot spring bath with ocean view🌊

#2024mapped Hakodate Uminokaze This hotel is located in Hakodate's Yunokawa Hot Springs, just a 10-minute cab ride from Hakodate Airport. The rooms were clean and very relaxing. The suite we stayed in had a private hot spring bath with a view of the ocean, which we enjoyed many times during our stay. I also enjoyed the buffet breakfast and dinner. The variety of seafood and other dishes were well worth the price! It was a wonderful hotel. Hokkaido Hakodate Kaiseki Cuisine Michelin One-Star Restaurant Fumotoya!!

Hokkaido Hakodate Kaiseki Cuisine Michelin One-Star Restaurant Fumotoya!!

Made a reservation a month in advance and it was worth the wait~ After viewing the million-dollar night view from Mount Hakodate and the Christmas lights, it was just in time for our reservation. They hold the reservation for 15 minutes only. The service was exceptional, with each customer having a private room. The combination of tatami and chairs was very comfortable. This meal made me realize that Kaiseki cuisine is indeed delicious. It’s just that the Kaiseki at Kaiboro wasn't to my taste~ (The blogger prefers meat over raw fish, so feel free to correct me if I'm wrong~) We ordered two pots of sake. When we arrived and it was cold, we ordered hot Motonoe special pure rice sake. After warming up, we ordered a pot of cold pure rice Daiginjo Kyobo. The staff mentioned that the small sake cups were made of bells. The Daiginjo was truly sweet and delicious. Sake paired with Kaiseki is a perfect match!! Although Hakodate is a bit boring, this meal was really great. Now off to the long-awaited Aomoriya 🍎!!!!

The southern gateway of Hokkaido| Hakodate (1454)

The southern gateway of Hokkaido| Hakodate (1454)

| Hakodate (1454). Hakodate, an important port city in the southwestern part of Hokkaido, Japan. Located in the Hakodate Bay in the southern part of the Oshima Peninsula, facing the Tsugaru Strait. It is located on a flat sandbar and belongs to the Hakodate Plain. There is Mount Hakodate in the eastern part of the bay, and Hakodate Port is in front of the mountain. The port has deep water and is a natural good port, the gateway to Hokkaido. Originally named Hakodate, it was a place of exile for discarded nobles and criminals in Honshu in the 13th century. Immigrants began to settle in the Edo period and engaged in fishing and agriculture. It was opened as a foreign port in 1854, and its business has become increasingly prosperous, once known as the 'Nagasaki of the North'. It was renamed to its current name in 1869. Hakodate is the southern gateway of Hokkaido, and like Yokohama and Nagasaki, it is also a port city with a long history of trade. It is one of the first Japanese ports to open, and the other is Shimonoseki City. All port cities are always accompanied by the tradition of overseas Chinese from various countries coming and going for trade, and this is no exception. Many past events are like flowing in the Tsugaru Strait at the entrance of Hakodate, continuously drifting from the Sea of Japan to the Pacific. In summer, thousands of squid fishing lights decorate the strait, and in winter, thousands of bright lights outline Hakodate.
