The check-in time must be before 16:00, because if it is later, there will be no cable car to the top of the mountain. The hotel is on the mountain, opposite the Golden Summit of the Matterhorn, which has great scenery. The hotel service is very good, providing dinner and breakfast.

I stayed in the dormitory and it was a nice room. Food is good and the location is amazing. Takes a couple gondolas to reach it since it's up in the mountain, so make sure not to miss the last one of the day. Staff was amazing and I had a great time. Best sunrise ever after breakfast! Right below Matterhorn!

Ich habe spontan dieses Hotel wegen der hervorragenden Lage reserviert. Insgesamt war es gut, doch wir hatten von Anfang bis Ende sehr kalt, sei es im Zimmer oder im Restaurant. Das Zimmer, notabene das teuerste mit eigener Toilette und Dusche war sehr spartanisch eingerichtet. Das Zimmer wie auch das Bad ist in die Jahre gekommen, die Isolation könnte besser sein. Das Abendessen war gut, die Bedienung sehr freundlich und zuvorkommend.

Amazing ambiance of high mountains
Amazing mountain ambiance - that was my second time staying in this hotel. Matterhorn view from my balcony, good breakfast and excellent dinner, friendly and helpful staff. Unfortunately it gets booked up very quickly during the summer so it’s really hard to get.

Rude, unfriendly manager
Very rude and unfriendly staff, particularly the elderly woman who seemed like the manager working during the day. Both soap and shampoo dispenser in the the shower/bathroom were empty, and had to ask multiple times to get it refilled, which still was not done promptly. Was rudely asked to settle my bill before check out time in the middle of eating my breakfast. Also was responded to angrily when I requested to check my luggage after check out, saying that it was too full and I would have to find space, which was not difficult at all to do for my medium sized backpack. Also the location is poor if you want to do anything in town, as they inform you in an email a few days prior to your stay that you will have to catch the 3pm gondola from Zermatt at the latest if you want to get back to the "hotel", which is really more of an adult hostel. I ended up sleeping on my friends' couch at their hotel in town for one of my nights because I wanted to hang out with them in town and it ended up being a far more comfortable and pleasant experience.

The view over Matterhorn and the Alps is fantastic from the terrace. The food is fare and good for the location altitude (2583m). You can eat 3-course menu or just take a replenish food before continuing for hiking/alpinism path choosing a traditional German-Switzerland course or an international one. If you don’t want to eat, you can enjoy a drink while relaxing with a view over the Alps. There is even a band that sings during some days (weekends especially) and they are able to make a good atmosphere. Even in summer they provide some blankets for the “frizzing” ones.

This is the only place at the Schwarzsee gondola station. When I visited, the weather was bad and the Matterhorn was hidden by clouds. I entered the inn with a feeling of regret, but the owners David and Tanya, and their dog Molly, welcomed me warmly. I had a delicious and enjoyable dinner while watching the night view of Zermatt. When I woke up in the morning, it was covered in snow. However, the clouds gradually cleared and the big Matterhorn appeared. When I went outside to take photos before breakfast, the owners and Molly popped their heads out of the window in the cold and said "Good morning". I was impressed by this hospitality. Since I booked the room on the Matterhorn side, it had a balcony and a bathtub. It wasn't spacious, but it was enough to relax. The hotel's best selling point is that you can see the Matterhorn up close, but even if you can't see the Matterhorn, I think you'll be glad you stayed at the inn because of the couple's hospitality.
