There are not enough words to describe how amazing this hotel is. From pick up to check out the staff are very welcoming, helpful and friendly. The rooms are clean, spacious and very comfortable. There is a spa which is very lovely with an infinity pool looking out to the town and mountains. You have a fantastic view of the Matterhorn. There is a unique tunnel leading up to the hotel. The hotel is well located to walk into town, 5 minutes away where you can get the train up to the Gornergrat where you have stunning views over the mountains. I don’t know where to start with the food but just WOW, it is like eating at a Michelin star restaurant, the food is unbelievable. I would highly recommend this hotel.

We were on a two week tour of Switzerland and this was Stop 3. It did not disappoint. Zermatt is approached by a spectacular train ride. The only thing that let us down was the porter failed to collect us from the station but we could walk there in five minutes. Great approach through a tunnel and up to reception in a lift. We got drinks vouchers for our inconvenience. We had a room with a balcony and a stunning view of the Matterhorn. Shame a crane was slightly in the way and there was some low key building work going on. The room was wonderful, spacious with a really well equipped and immaculate bathroom. Storage was great and the main bedroom had a sofa, chair and small table. There was a safe and stocked minibar. Soft drinks are complimentary and water and fruit are replenished every day. There was a turn down service on our second night. Bathrobes and slippers are provided. Shoes are also provided for the spa. There is a coffee machine which can also be used as a kettle. The bed was very comfortable. The balcony was a good size and had two chairs and a coffee table. The whole room was immaculate. It was really comfortable too. The hotel had a lovely spa with saunas, steam room and infinity pool overlooking the Matterhorn. It was quiet too. There was a lovely bar terrace. We ate in The hotel restaurant and the food was amazing. Traditional Swiss cuisine with a Japanese fusion. Very good. Breakfast was very good, buffet and served until 10,30 am. Staff were universally friendly and efficient. We absolutely loved this hotel and would return again without hesitation. In fact we can’t wait to return. It’s not cheap but worth every penny. Great location for cable car or train to viewing spots. Super. We gave it 11 out of 10!

A lovely room with an amazing view over the village directly to the Matterhorn. The hotel is clean and service is excellent. Arrival is memorable due to the unique tunnel into the mountainside entry in to the hotel. Restaurant offerings are wonderful and breakfast is fabulous. Would visit again without question.

I booked a room here since I couldn't get my favourite hotel - the Kulmhotel at the top of Gornergrat. They advertise the view, but the view from my room was not so good since there as a bit of construction work on the side of the building. The staff were only moderately friendly, and there were all sorts of inconsistencies or problems. One day, I received a little snack in my room, the next day I did not, although I saw them on the chambermaid's cart. The worst problem was at the restaurant: I called early to reserve a table by the window, and was told: "We can reserve a table for you, but we can't guarantee that it will be by the window". What? Either a table is free, or it is not!! How can they not know what tables have been reserved???? And only on the last day did I learn at breakfast that you can order eggs... Just not professional.

Enter the hotel through a cool cave. Absolutely stunning hotel. Best spa view I have ever had the opportunity to experience. Matterhorn views galore. Definitely one of the best places for a view in Zermatt. I will stay here again for sure next time I am here. Highly recommend.

It is very easy to review a hotel under normal circumstances, but if you really want to see what a hotel and people running it are all about, be there during an emergency and you'll quickly find out what's real. We were in Zermatt from April 12-19, though we were scheduled to leave on the 17th for a night in Zürich before an early morning flight home. Our first 4 days/nights in Zermatt where as amazing as you'd expect with beautiful weather and hikes to Zum See and Chez Vrony (highly recommend both). The Chalet Hotel Schönegg was equally exceptional in those first 4 nights with a beautiful terrace, a new indoor/outdoor pool, a lovely spa, a first rate staff and a great breakfast spread. So for the normal review - beautiful hotel, great staff, exceptional amenities and jaw dropping views of the Matterhorn. When it started snowing on the afternoon of the 16th, we should have considered getting out of Zermatt but who knew how much snow was really going to come our way. The power went out that night around 1am and snow kept falling through the afternoon on 17th leading to Zermatt being cutoff from the rest of Switzerland with only road in being closed and no trains running. So this is the point where I'd go from a rave 5* review to even higher if allowed based on the care and concern provided by the whole staff at the Chalet Hotel Schönegg. Based on our experiences with Sebastian, this level of service starts at the top and shows in all of the staff that he has assembled and trained. I could go on and on, but just a few highlights: * hotel staff trekking in to work in over waist deep snow and working extremely long shifts * Sebastian taking time to speak to all guests individually (in multiple languages) multiple times a day to provide updates on power, food and transportation * kitchen staff preparing lunch with no power and even heating soup by candle * hotel staff boiling water for tea on the indoor fire place * rooms being cleaned as if nothing had changed Finally it was looking better on the 19th that trains might actually run in the afternoon, though not guaranteed and also requiring many hours waiting in line. Alternatively the road from Zermatt to Visp was open on the morning of 19th for a few hours, closing again at 11am. Sebastian arranged for a minibus to get about 16 out of Zermatt that morning to Visp where trains were running as normal. I was literally moved to tears based on the care, concern and generosity given us by everyone at the Chalet Hotel Schönegg. I won't even consider staying anywhere else when I return to Zermatt.

Well where to begin ? The whole experience was fantastic and having stayed in Zermatt on several occasions the hotel did not disappoint. The location is fantastic and right on Sonnega for all skiers this means you can ski straight back to the hotel past the champagne bar if you fancy . The staff are magnificent and the owner Sabastian takes time out to meet and greet everyone with friendly chat and advise . A mention to Ronya,Hubert and Marjory, her Swiss French accent was fab .The apres ski in the bar inside and out was excellent and the guests from all round the globe were fun . Food was excellent as were the drinks and breakfast with hot coffee was a joy. The spa has a great relaxing feel and the whole experience from check in to check out was flawless . My only down side perhaps was overenjoying the experience and drinking a tad too much . A big recommend from me and if possible I aim to return. Thanks all .
