We didn’t stay at the inn but had a fabulous first class dinner with helpful and friendly staff and surprisingly reasonably priced. A lovely old inn with just enough modern touches to ensure you are really comfortable and a lovely atmosphere to boot. Make sure to call and book as always busy.

Not sure what has happened here, service was non existent, staff were more interested in chatting amongst themselves. The fish was just too salty and when asked was everything ok, she didn’t know what to say when we complained. Very expensive for what we got and turns out we were overcharged.

Nice place. Gets really busy so it’s hard to get a table. The food is lovely, with the exception of the caeser salad which has enchovies plus chicken. It really tastes awful Good location and a nice clean place I would recommend it if you are in York it’s a must. It is suggested guy fawkes himself was born on the premises

Stopped by for a drink . Small area at front was busy but don’t let that put you off because along the corridor leads to another dinning area then outside onto a small outside then through a door leads to more indoor seating and a larger outdoor area lots of room .. very quaint pub steeped in history. Decent pint served by a friendly and professional barman would definitely visit again oh and although we didn’t eat the smell of food was amazing 👌

We ordered a drink at the bar on arrival and we were taken to our table after a few minutes wait. The restaurant was virtually empty, apart from one other couple, which we thought was a bit unusual for a Friday night but we were seated at the top end of the dining room by the widow, which is what I requested when I booked the table. So far so good. Unfortunately, it all went a bit downhill from here. The service was painfully slow throughout the evening, which was surprising considering how quiet the restaurant was. We were booked in for 8pm and although the starter arrived pretty quickly, and we were aware there was a 30 minute cooking time for the main course, we didn’t get it until nearly 9.30. In between, it was as though they’d completely forgotten we were there. No one came to ask if we wanted any more drinks, or if everything was okay with our meal. We had to ask for another drink ourselves when someone was passing and even then, it still took an age to arrive, despite mentioning to another member of staff that we’d ordered it a while back. We then asked if we could order a bottle of white wine and when it arrived, it was barely chilled. It was a warm night and the room was incredibly hot, so a nice glass of cold wine would have been great but we ended up leaving a third of the bottle as it just wasn’t enjoyable. No one asked us if everything had been okay when they brought the bill and usually we would have said something about our experience but to be honest, it was so late that we just wanted to go, so we paid up and left. A shame really as the food was okay but it’s not somewhere we’ll be rushing back to.

Waited over an hour for ordered food that never arrived. Manager apologized and said the order had “fallen through the cracks.” These things happen I suppose but we lost tourism time we won’t get back. Our request for a refund was honored but the experience was disappointing to say the least. With the number of pubs around here perhaps consider elsewhere.

Guy Dawkes Inn was recommended to us by our Hotel as a great place to eat Proper pie ,,, one with a bottom., and they certainly were not wrong. The Steak and Ale pie is to die for, packed full of meat and cooked to perfection topped of with really sumptuous mash and Gravy like I have never tasted before. Go and enjoy, you will not be disappointed

This historic gem with an inflated past was a great place to meet up before the new addition but the courtyard out the very, very back had added another dimension to the seating arrangements. Staff are good and food is very nice. Enjoy its charm!
