This was probably my sixth or seventh stay at Gorse Hill over the years, been here multiple times for various events as it's quite local. This time a friend booked a room and pre-paid a non refundable rate, but was actually unable to stay for the night due to change in personal circumstances, so I stayed or the room would've been empty and breakfast wasted. It was Room 35 next to the hotel gym in the outside building opposite the main manor house which is an accessible room. Due to this room being furnished for guests with disabilities, there is no bath, only a large shower area in the bathroom. Good that the Rituals toiletries are still here, but it's disappointing they don't have any box of tissues anymore or even shower caps, come on, this is certified a 4 star hotel, at least put tissues the the usual amenities. At least they now have Nespresso machines as well as the usual instant teas and coffee. Such a shame the weather was wet, it was a Sunday and they had a wedding fair on, so the lounge was all re-furnished for their wedding venue as was the main restaurant. The TV set in my room obviously needed re-tuning as I was unable to get a signal on several channels which was very annoying. The food here has always been good, but overpriced, £18 for fish and chips! Okay they do a very good fish and chips, but it's London prices and this is Woking. Very good cocktails, though. The staff are always friendly, for breakfast it was temporarily in the small dining room because of the restaurant still being laid out for a wedding display, it wasn't that busy being a Monday morning. Staff handled it very well considering it wasn't the usual breakfast dining area and I got a hot chocolate as requested very quickly. Breakfast is only served until 9.30 on weekdays. It was disappointing about the TV not working properly and there needs to be a few tweaks here and there, but I still had an enjoyable stay. Great that they have a small, but well equipped private gym and I stayed right next door which was convenient.
