Our terrible stay at the Courtyard began when we checked in with Kevin at the front desk, who was rude and did not seem interested in helping us learn more information about the hotel and acted like he would rather be anywhere but there. Next the smell of the hotel resembled that of greasy fast food, which is not the biggest problem, but added to the overall negative experience. Next we make our way down to the elevator which probably has not been renovated in a long time. The fast-food smell vanishes as you emerge into the hallway where you are suddenly slammed with a strong chemical smell. The smell is not only in the hallway but also in the rooms. It is overpowering and most likely there to coverup mildew or mold. The rooms are small, old, and have concrete ceilings and walls. The air conditioning is old and was going on and off throughout the night. It is not a welcoming or relaxing environment. The bathroom setup is strange and not conducive to larger families. Even worse was the price, which did represent the hotel's value, as I have in much nicer places for far less. Safe to say we will be coming back and you should take my advice and stay far away from this hotel.

The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. However, the toilet seat was chipped and flaking in several places. Also, the refrigerator door wouldn't close completely, and the frost in the back melted and caused a large wet spot in the carpet in front of the refrigerator. The bed was sideways to the TV, but the TV mount extended out and enabled me to turn the screen towards it, so that helped. I also liked the love seat with ottoman.

This hotel which was the subject of a relatively recent remodeling, continues to provide a stressful experience to those who are assigned upper-level rooms. Booking room 401, as an example, yielded defective air conditioning that provided no cooling of the room and the need to run the shower for at least 20 -40 minutes before the water became warm. I witnessed another customer complaining about cold water in the shower. The Manager was insensitive to our complaints, claimed that it was related to many customers showering simultaneously (it is a hotel for goodness help!), and failed to acknowledge that other customers have written about similar experiences. An insensitive and borderline rude Manager offered no apologies or any form of compensation. I would not repeat and do caution others about being exposed to similar experiences. There are many other hotel choices around Hanes Mall in Winston-Salem.

Positives are that this is a mostly newly renovated Courtyard. I say mostly because the elevator was not upgraded and I’m not sure they replaced the toilets when the6 redid the rooms. Bed was comfy and the interior room features were tastefully decorated. I found the workout room to be more expansive than other Courtyards - didn’t have that dungeon feeling. So the reason for my low rating is all related to the staff. The staff wore graphic t-shirts and had no name tags so you had no idea who was actually working there. They had their AirPods in while in view of guests so I was confused if they were talking to me or someone on the phone. I just walked away feeling like the staff didn’t know how to meet the needs of the corporate business traveler. They just seemed like their mind was focused somewhere else. When I checked in my room had no hand soap and the person checking me in just seemed to have a “deer in the headlights look” about it and I had to suggest that she get soap from an unoccupied vacant room (which she did). So I think this hotel could really shine but first they need to get their staff motivated to be there and serve guests.

Not sure why this place doesn’t have 5 stars. Is close to tons of restaurants, is SUPER clean and appears to be either new or recently updated. The outdoor pool area is clean and has nice furniture and a fire pit. The gym has all of the normal machines and weights. The air co sit-up we was nice and cold. The bed is super comfy. Check in was quick and easy. Super great stay!

Quiet, off main road location makes for a pleasant respite from highway driving. Only walkable restaurant is Red Lobster. Hotel offers bar, Starbucks and food. During our stay remodelling was going on so hard to judge future appearance. We were in an updated room that was adequate in decor, (edgy modern) not as nicely cozy as I think of Courtyards. Very soft pillows, rather soft bed, no heat in shower/toilet area Staff attentive About a 15 minute drive to convention center.

Web has outdoor pool and whirlpool plus Spa but there was neither. Fire Pit not working asked Samantha , "oh, well it has not been filled lately". If you are not going to have something working I booked this location because of the amenities. So disappointed.

Apparently, they've just finished an upgrade, and the place looks nice and new, BUT ... The Bistro has a very limited menu, in spite of the notice in the elevator showing all kinds of yummy things for dinner. Nope. Not happening. And only one elevator works, so you can end up waiting and waiting. Inexcusably, the room doors are impossible to close quietly, so don't plan on sleeping in or going to bed early. There is no recycling, unlike most Marriotts which have in-room recycle containers. None of the ice machines on any floor worked. There's a tiny little soap, the kind you'd expect in a Motel 6. We asked for a quiet room and got one overlooking I-40. The view from our room, in front of I-40, was construction garbage.

Thank you to Phyllis B and Samantha G for a great breakfast this morning! The drinks were amazing as well thanks to Samantha B. The best Dirty Chai Latte I have ever had! Many thanks and would highly recommend.
