Hand and Spear

An enjoyable two day stay which relates solely to the room I was allocated. The room was spacious and well appointed and quiet and contained a fair amount of snacks and drinks which could be purchased. The food in the restaurant was very good and served by very friendly staff. The hotel was situated near to a main railway line but in my room and in the restaurant no noise could be heard. The interior of the hotel was diviided into several rooms and generally had an excellent ambiance. Outside were tables which could be enjoyed in suitable weather. On the downside whilst the cooked breakfast was very good the continental choice left a lot to be desired - no cornflakes and very little choice. Although my room was very good beware the noise from the downstairs bar piped music. It was very intrisive in the room so much so I had to ask for it to be turned off after 10pm. Despite these two minor problems I would certainly stay again.

Not good value for money This is a very old building which is reflected in its rooms. We were in room 11. First, we had to climb 4 lots of narrow stairs to get to our room. Then, when we were in, ANOTHER set of stairs to go down to a room with a bed (which filled the room) and an en-suite bathroom. The bathroom was like a sauna as it was small, had a heated towel rail which we couldn't turn off, no extractor fan and no window. The bedroom had a minibar built into the furniture but the covering door was wedged closed with a folded beermat! The bed, douvet and pillows were all very heavy so not a good sleep. The breakfast experience wasn't much better. First I had to prove that it was included with my booking (good job i took a printout with me). There were no yoghurts, no sugar to go with the cereal, no bowls, butter etc. Poor choice unless you have the full English. We chose this Hotel for its proximity to the railway station. If I came to Weybridge again I would stay somewhere cheaper and get a taxi to the station. They were lots of them at the taxi rank when trains came in.

The breakfast was very poor No yogurt only fruit available were grapes! The heating in the room was either cold or hot !!

We chose The Hand and Spear because it was near an event we were attending. We enjoyed our short stay so much that we intend to return for a proper break. The hotel is in a good position for visiting attractions around Weybridge, which itself seems worth exploring. We were made to feel very welcome by Sotty and his colleagues. This was a genuine welcome and he went out of his way to help us with nothing too much trouble. This included showing me exactly where we had to go for our event. The room was superb, very comfortable and nicely decorated with a butterfly theme. My husband is disabled with mobility issues and we we able to park outside and everything was ideal for my husband. We had a most comfortable night and I enjoyed the separate bath whilst the walk in shower was great for my husband. There was a generously stocked minibar and real milk for the complimentary teas plus a coffee machine. We had a delicious fish finger sandwich on arrival and the breakfast was excellent. We ordered Eggs Royale and full vegetarian. We ate in a nicely furnished conservatory and there was also a garden and outside seating area. Strongly recommended. Our only regret was that we only stayed for one night!

Very disappointed general decor was tired with need of a refurbishment, breakfast was very basic with the fresh fruit display offering overripe bananas black on appearance, with very little choice for continental requirements. The staff were pleasant and helpful. Minibar and welcome hamper were not priced and as £50 was held back on our credit card we decided not to take advantage of the facility.
