Relais Balcone di Giulietta

I cannot disagree more with the glowing reviews I have read about this hotel. Battling through noisy crowds queuing to get to see the famous balcony, luggng suitcases over the cobbles, unable to find the door to the hotel tucked away in a corner of the courtyard, unable for some time to get anyone to come to the door to let us in was not the "welcome" we expected. And the noise from bellow is relentless . We had our own balcony looking over the courtyard but couldn't enjoy it because it was so noisy and because there was no privacy. Yes the courtyard is closd to the public at night and you are givine a key to unlock the gates to get out but there are always people clammering to get in and we felt a little threatened by this. Our room was large and modern but there were no hooks to hang anything in the bathrom, no drawers and very little space in the wardrobe - no shelves to speak of. Not a comfortable room. This hotel has no dining room nor breafast facilities. we were given vouchers for breakfast at a cafe in the busiest most touristy square in the city - the breakfasts were not very good - a basic fruit salad, a dry croisssant, an orange juice and a cup of tea - not what we expect of a 4 star hotel - in the sort of cafe we wouldn't normally go to. This hotel has no facilites other than bedrooms - there is no proper reception area, just the office which the staff work in and more importantly no toilet other the ones in bedrooms. Having left our luggage at the hotel on the last day of our stay we returned mid afternoon to collect our suitcases and hopefully freshen up before heading to the airport. My husband needed to change his clothes from those he had been wearing for sightseeing in the very hot weather. We were told there was nowhere we could use - we said we needed to use the bathroom urgently and a member of staff took us down to the basment, through a storage area, to the staff toilet. This wasn't particularly pleasant, especially as we were "chaperoned". We would describe this establishment and a bed and breakfast without the breakfast. It certain;y isn't our idea of a 4 * hotel. And it is not good value for money.
