I had a marvellous holiday with my family. All hotel employees were friendly and only difficulty was having waiters with no English knowledge. I handled it knowing a bit of Bulgarian but might not be so comfortable with everyone

Veligrand-ghost town Velingrand: A quiet town that offers nothing besides some taverns/restaurants and small shops.Dont visit if you are looking to have fun. NOT recommended for young people! Hotel: Generally a nice hotel. Staff is professional. However indoor SPA pools are outdated and need to be modernized. Also, there arent many activities to do; They could at least arrange for a walk in the park or music events. Dont go there if you are too active.Go there to isolate from everything

It was our first time. We were accommodating in a room which was outdated, not cleaned well and the air conditioning was out of order. We notified the receptionist two times and finally they suggested us to move in another room that was not the one we paid through ******* for and it has the same issue and construction work around. We did not have any choice and were sleeping with open windows over the night, the mattress was uncomfortable though. They may need to invest more in maintaining their facilities as we noticed many details not working properly in different areas. Otherwise, it is in a good location with great panoramic view.

This hotel's best pints are its pools and water spas. All are nicely set up and well-maintained. There's good variety in the saunas and steam rooms, and the outdoor pool is attractive to use even in October. The room with a balcony was spacious and comfortable. It lacked a few niceties, like a good supply of water bottles in the room each day, but was big and inviting. The common spaces are odd: They are huge, dark wood rooms that seem luxurious at first glance, but the spaces are far from cozy. They seem to confuse grandeur with size. In October, with few guests, the common spaces felt very lonely. The food was not very good and we quickly found better options in Velingrad. We went for the waters and the air, and Maxi delivered on those counts.

I've just spent a 4 day break (paid for 3) at the maxi spa hotel. The first impression as we walked into the hotel was great! Beautiful decor maybe a little dated but that's not unusual in Bulgaria. We had a large room which I can't fault much as I said just dated. The 4 day break cost 1.350lv (£580) half board. They say it's 5 star and it's clearly not! 5 star prices at the bar but not the service, the waiting staff are pleasant but clearly haven't done customer service, the first thing I noticed is our food when ordered was served as it was prepared! I'd finished my food before my wife's came to the table. The food was always served luke warm, even the buffet food wasn't hot enough. I may seem pretty in my comments but if you claim 5 star then it should be! The spa facilities were ok, there were 3 pools two small ones and a large one. The only thing I can fault about that is, they say no one under 12, and there was a number of children under that. I'm not anti children but when you read the website and get something else. I also couldn't get a dressing grown to fit after many requests they were all to small. When you go for a relaxing break it all comes down to the details! If you claim a high standard and charge 5 star prices guests should get that! I may try it one more time and see if it improves if not I will go elsewhere. I enjoyed our 4 day break(the pool helped that) but it was last in the small details and collectively spoiled the experience

Maxi Velingrad used to be my favorite hotel for over 15 years, but not anymore. Very far away from 5 stars service and facilities. The hotel is outdated-dirty carpers, leaking bathroom, peeling off spa, half of the jacuzzis are not working, restaurant cutlery is disguising, etc. Avoid packages with dinner, because the dinner is monotonous and mostly some unrecognizable casseroles. The room I got this time was far away facing the warehouse and garbage bins. Receptionist called it “deluxe” and the price was higher than the advertisement. Their rooms are the same in the whole hotel, none is deluxe or standard. The spa is noisy. Despite the sign “kids under 12 not allowed “, kids are inside talking loudly and running between saunas.
