Just returned from Grand Hotel Tremezzo a few days ago. While the opulence of the decor seeks to impress, the customer service is NOT impressive. At 1300 euros/ night and being a 5 star hotel, we thought thus would be an impeccable experience but was the opposite. We were told on numerous occasions that there was no availability at 3 of their restaurants (930pm) while there was abundant available seating. Also told we could not order food in restaurant adjacent to bar—only drinks while others were dining and placing food orders. We accepted the “drinks only” mandate, yet the waitress proceeded to provide a menu. Big disconnect between multiple hosts and waiters. A basic cocktail ( gin & tonic) was 31 euros. We asked if there were other restaurants/shops nearby and was told that visiting Villa Carlotta was only option. We discovered on our own that there were restaurants/shops within 3 min. walking distance. There was no orientation to the hotel, room, etc. Discovered on our own the meaning of adding red or green tassel to doorknob to signify housekeeping services. Had to figure out restaurant locations ourselves. Breakfast buffet was delightful and one of their mire positive amenities, Concierge obtained a taxi for us for a 10 min. drive to a restaurant costing 90 euros. We asked to cancel the taxi after 4 min. and were charged 90 euros anyway through hotel The bathroom shower is smaller than a cruise ship shower—- must turn off shower in order to lather. Long rectangular drain is under shower head and uncomfortable to stand on. Commode is crammed in beside shower— can’t open small, narrow door to shower without hitting commode. Pizza cooking class was most positive experience.
