Gladstone House

This hotel was absolutely fantastic and, believe it or not, actually came with a robe, which I gladly wore in the hours leading up to my friend's 40th birthday party. Everything was great except for one thing -- the interior of this hotel was ugly as sin. See the purple pool table below. Who greenlit this, exactly? Super ugly. When I was in undergrad this place was a dive and I saw the best noise show of my life in the lower area. Is this an improvement?

The hotel is decent and I liked the location. The staff, however was a real mix - several were incredibly nice and two were in the wrong business. For the cost, I was pretty disappointed. They offer parking but it is across the street, down an alley, and underground. Traveling alone, an elderly, grey haired woman, I was concerned about my safety. The man who checked me in on Sunday (young guy with green hair) could not have cared less. When I asked if I could park on the street, he said no - I later figured out that I could. I explained that I was afraid to go in the garage the next night because I would be out late and asked if I could have someone accompany me. He said no and offered no possible solutions. Later that day, two young women were the complete opposite and assured me they would send someone with me and I would be fine. They were so nice and helpful. The next day, I read the street signs carefully and it seemed to me that I could park on the street overnight. On Monday there was a different young woman working and when I asked her about the parking she said she had no idea, which I found odd - seems it would be something they would know if they worked there. When I asked a follow-up question, she said she didn’t drive and just shut me down. When I returned later that evening, I parked on the street, went inside and now there was a big guy there and I asked him about the situation. He was amazing, went outside with me, read the signs, confirmed it should be okay and I left the car there (It was okay. And I saved the $30 parking fee.) the other thing was that when I arrived and left, both young men did not lift a finger to help me with my bag … it was huge since I am on a long trip. I realize they did not have doormen or valet but watching a 70-year old woman struggle with a 50-pound bag and just stand there as I tried to get it up and down the stairs - no ramp. The whole experience was just disappointing. I would go somewhere else next time I am in Toronto..
