We stayed for two nights between the 4th and 5th of this month. There is so much being done at this place to improve the guest experience, my advice is, get in quick before they fully achieve their ambitions, because you won't be able to get a booking there any more. So many little generous and deft touches are being applied it is difficult to know where to start. The real candles along the main passageway on the ground floor on their own must take half an hour to light in the evening. Absolutely every member of staff we talked to was friendly, informative and helpful. The food was excellent, the barman knew his whisky. Location here is key. Purched on the edge of the lock the views from the front rooms and bedrooms are like staring into some old master painting, but watching it change every few moments with the wind, light, water surface. You can do this eating your Eggs Benedict or generous full Scottish breakfast in the morning from the excellently located restaurant. There are two. One for those who are travelling with their dogs and another for those who are not. Very thoughtful. If you want uniformity and fresh paint , maybe go for a Travelodge or something similar. Nothing wrong there and you usually know what you are going to get, if that is important to you. If you want creativity, an ambition for excellence, the human touch and massive stuffed game fish on the wall with photos of the massive stuffed old buffers who caught them on a rod that looks like it was made out of garden cane you won't be disappointed with the Taychreggain Hotel. Choose life.

New owners trying hard but have a long way to go. Hotel needs significant investment, especially the ambiance, the quality of the food and the interior renovation. We ate in the restaurant the first night but were disappointed so found local alternatives for the remainder of our stay. Sadly they have lost that ‘Scottish ‘ feel and without the view you could be having a break anywhere. The philosophy of the hotel group is focussed on the guest, however, we didn’t feel that way. Our overall experience lacked emotional warmth and we felt that the preference was for group rather than individual bookings. Disappointed as this was not our first visit and not what we were expecting.

A hotel full of character with very pleasant, well furnished public rooms and tastefully furnished bedrooms. Location on banks of Loch Awe was stunning with breathtaking views and tranquil setting. Food was very good but service was slow. A lovely walk from the hotel to a viewpoint, which was amazing.

All the staff were great and a special shout out goes to Kasia for her friendliness and kindness during chek-in and out, and to the barman Stuart, who had the ability to talk to people from all walks of life and different countries, he is an asset! We ate dinner and had to be hands down the best meal we have had over the last year. Thank you for a great stay.

It's a hotel well off the beaten track with absolutely magnificent views. That's really about as positive as I can be. On arriving it seemed that there was only one member of staff working. A young girl with an English accent who was very professional and helpful. However, when she was dealing with other guests, we had to wait around. I felt for her as she was juggling balls whilst it seemed management were hosting guests in the restaurant. The room? Tired, old. One window with a broken, damp window frame, the other painted shut with a cracked window. In the bathroom we had a window at ground level beside the bath. Where "voyeurs" could maybe indulge in watching folk on the toilet or in the bath. For a hotel in such a beautiful location, we felt we could not open the windows. Which is a real shame when the air is as fresh as it can be. Food? Limited menu with nothing really taking our fancy. It was decent enough but only a 6/10 at best. Our bed. The foot of the bed was higher than the head of the bed. Resulting in me waking up at 3am with pain in my calves. My wife woke up with a sore head. Honestly. It was unreal. Breakfast. Was good. Although to be told "no sausages" on a Scottish breakfast only for a veggie "sausage" to be added was a bit confusing. They shouldn't have bothered. The staff are great. Trying their hardest, but the hotel could be so, so, so much better. It's in need of a "makeover" and maybe an experienced hotelier to take the reigns and get a grip of it. The value for money is not there. It's overpriced. Way over priced. I wish them well. They've a lot of work to do.

First visit since new owners took over and although clean and comfortable I felt the hotel had lost some of its magical ambiance and had more of a corporate atmosphere. This probably works in their other hotels but not in an historic Scottish lodging in such a beautiful remote location

I have never left a bad review in 100’s of hotel stays. However, I was left so embarrassed for my guests, I feel compelled. Most of the staff are poorly trained and rude and certainly don’t show the warmth you expect of Highland hospitality. The views are lovely but our experience was overshadowed by the poor attitudes of staff.

This is a beautiful hotel overlooking the loch , it’s out of the way and very private. The food is fantastic, small menu but something for every taste.
