Do not stay here! Our room was very dirty throughout our four day stay, no flushing toilet, no running water for bath or shower and had to fill the toilet cistern ourselves with bottled water. The bath side was hanging off, the bath mat was dirty and the replacement had already been used by someone else. However, waiters and bar staff were excellent unlike the proprietors who dealt with our complaints unprofessionally. They were both belligerent, rude and quite frankly we felt that they couldn't have given a damn. Despite several attempts to contact them, including a letter sent via special delivery and signed for on 26 October to date we have received no response.

This is by far the worst hotel I have ever had to stay at it was dirty stank of damp no hot water no clean water the food was disgusting the owner just lied ever time I spoke with her it was another excuse and another lie when we first arrived they didn't have us booked in and this happened to a few guests the ceiling in the stairwell was literally falling down this place needs some serious money going into it so disappointed will never be returning to this awful place

This was our second stay here and we enjoyed it as much as we did the first time. I have read the poor reviews and think they are unjustified. During both our stays we met with friendly and pleasant staff who couldn’t do enough for us, it was pleasant to chat with them, from Will and Alan to JJ, Danny and Liz. We were upgraded to a lodge which was lovely with stunning views over the lake. When we asked for recommendations of other places to eat, we were advised of a few restaurants, yes, we had to drive about 30 minutes but that was expected in a remote area. Breakfast was ample with an array of cereals to choose from, yoghurts, toast and croissants, hot and cold drinks; porridge is offered and cooled breakfasts on request for an additional charge. The rooms are clean and comfortable, yes there’s the odd issue with heating but bearing in mind it’s provided by a biomass boiler, it’s dealt with quickly. The bath in the Lodge was huge and it was lush to bathe in the pure water. The water does have peat traces in it but bottled water is provided for drinking. The bar and the library area are cosy with log fires and the bar is well stocked. The views are stunning and the clear skies and silence on nights are just amazing. Portsonachan is just perfect for a getaway from city life; if you’re expecting a chain hotel experience it’s probably not for you but if you want peace and quiet and the friendly, personal touch with beautiful scenery to wake up to, then definitely give this hotel a go. We’ll be back for sure. Shout out to Will for doing a cracking job and being just lovely.

Apologies for this lengthy review: After a long 6 hour drive, we arrived at the hotel with high expectations. We had bought a 4 night mini break at a Country Fair back in June 2023, and reviews looked good. However, things weren’t quite what we believed they would be. We thought we were having a luxury break. Staff were pleasant on arrival and advised that unfortunately the kitchen would be closed, on the third night of our stay for remedial works. However, we could have soup and a sandwich. We don’t quite understand why we weren’t advised prior to arrival, so that we could change plans to suit or ask where else we could eat. The hotel is extremely remote. But hey ho, a small oversight, we thought. We went to our room which appeared to be ok, then we decided to have a drink in the bar. This is when our concerns heightened, this hotel is Extremely tired and in need of a well overdue update, damp and mould being one of the issues. We discussed our concerns and decided to leave and head home, a further 6 hour drive. I passed the key in at reception and advised them, that this hotel is not for us. I should have outlined our thoughts there and then, my mistake, totally. On route, I emailed the hotel outlining why we had left, the fact that we thought we were going to a luxury hotel and that the kitchen being closed was an inconvenience. I requested a part refund. As this was partly an oversight on our behalf also. However, my email was met with silence. I followed it up, with a few calls, and was promised that someone would call me back, this didn’t materialise, but when calling them I was continually told that the hotel is not marketed as luxury and the fact that we bought a bed & breakfast voucher, we shouldn’t really be concerned of the kitchen being closed of one evening. By the way, this hotel is extremely remote, so if you can’t eat at the hotel, I’m a little lost as to where we would go. By no means were any alternatives offered. Apart from soup and a sandwich. I eventually requested that a director call so I could explain, my complaint. To be fair he did call, and confirmed he’d read my email. However, he was extremely blunt, with a huge lack of empathy. When I told him my thoughts, I was met with arrogance and annoyance, then wad asked where is this conversation going, then the call was very quickly ended. Well I will reiterate, I requested a partial refund, as we only stayed in the hotel vicinity for at least an hour, possibly two and this booking was a poor lack of judgement, on our behalf. All I can end on, is, please do your home work, before booking. Everyone to their own. I can only pass on our opinion and certainly will not be ****** into one of these voucher purchases, ever again. I’m sure the hotel will put their point across also, there’s two sides to every story. I look forward to their comments!

Had a great time here. We stayed four nights, but would have been happy to stay a couple of weeks. The very spacious lochside apartment had everything you could want - fully equipped kitchen, smart TV, good WiFi, a huge bath. Breakfast was good quality. Outside the patio doors was the glorious Loch Awe. The staff were friendly, helpful and professional. A peaceful, relaxing and very comfortable stay. The dog loved it too.

My Mum and I visited this wonderful hotel. The location is stunning with a lochside view. Excuse the pun but we were totally in Awe of everything about this trip away. The staff were amazing. Daniel was particularly attentive, professional and lovely. The staff went above and beyond to make our stay wonderful. Thankyou so much :-)

Very disappointing. Unloved and tired. Dirty carpets. No water. No flushing toilet. No shelves in bathroom. Overpriced poor food. Inattentive staff. Gloomy interior. Dangerous stairs. Uninspired bar and restaurant. What a shame with so much potential, it’s obviously seen better days. Needs a major overhaul and refurb. My advice would be concentrate on keeping the lodges absolutely top notch, close all rooms, make the restaurant and bar exceptional, exclusive, a place to visit for the best food and drink experience with lodge stay, with attentive, knowledgeable and friendly staff. Cut back everything that’s wrong and build on everything that’s good. GOOD LUCK

The room we were given did not have water for 10 hours so unable to flush toilet, get water to wash or bathe in. Told by manager they had had this problem for previous 3 weeks. Should never have been given this room. Continental breakfast was poor.
