Lermitage Hotel Tallinn

I have no idea why this hotel is classed as 4*. I stayed in a tiny box room where the temperature could not be controlled and was just too hot for me. The window could only be opened slightly which kept shutting on its own accord! The staff did provide me with a fan though, which helped. There was no hospitality tray, which for a so called 4* is a basic. Their description says it’s 5 mins from the town Sq. It is NOT by any stretch of the imagination. It’s at least 15 mins, up a hill, then down a hill. It’s hard work. The breakfast service was an absolute shambles. Everything crowded together in one corner. A coffee machine that took ages to dispense coffee and i only wanted hot water. There was a massive queue for the buffet, then a queue for the drinks. Once you’ve got your food, there was no where left to sit, with people wandering around with plates of food. It was the most stressful breakfast service i’ve ever endured and the whole process took over an hour to complete. i was utterly fed up. Bed was comfy though. If i could have stayed somewhere else, i would have done. Not very pleasant for a holiday experience
Tallink City Hotel

Very nice hotel at first sight. We had a double standard room and it had an area of 16-17m2. The room was arranged in such a way that if one opened the cupboard door or the minibar door, the entrance door could not be opened. There was a folding valley support, but there was nowhere to put it. On cruise ships the cabins are larger. There were liquid stains and crumbs on 1 bedside table. We complained and we were given a triple room that was clean and had approximately 20-21m2, enough for 2 people, but if a 3rd person had to sleep there in a folde bed, it would no longer be possible to move around the room. Both badrooms were 2m2 (included above) with a shower, sink and toilet The breakfast was well stocked, although sparse for a sweet breakfast. You had to prepare the pancakes yourself. We wanted to eat at the hotel in the evening on the arrival day, so no reservation, and were refused: everything is reserved although the restaurant was half empty. We then went to the lobby bar, where you can also eat something, where we were told that we had to wait at least 1 hour before the food could be served. Out of misery we went to McDonalds.
Original Sokos Hotel Viru

In terms of location, you’re unlikely to find a better place. The hotel is located right across from the entrance to Tallinn’s medieval old town. It is also conveniently connected to a shopping centre. The hotel, whilst renovated, is a little dated in keeping with its Soviet era heritage. But that itself lends character. Staff friendly and responsive. Beds very comfortable. The view from the rooftop bar is panoramic and magical at sunset. The KGB museum is worth a visit by itself and a fascinating relic of Estonia’s tragic but ultimately triumphant history. The lady guide for the KGB museum tour was great. Only downside is lack of block out curtains: which are essential in the summer months with the sun setting so late. It would also have been nice if the KGB Museum tour was included in the hotel rate, or at least if a discount was offered for guests.

Tallinn Old Town
As the title suggests, what we liked best was the fresh attitude among the staff. Friendly; no little thing was a problem; worlds apart from the ”Good Old Soviet Style” you still can occasionally run into when travelling in Estonia. Our room was tidy, with a balcony and a view to direction St. Olafs church. Breakfast was excellent. If only they had one or two jacuzzis in the spa... Actually, the place looked to us more like a swimming centre (with a 50 meter pool) than a spa, although this might look different if you are travelling with children. But anyways, the steam sauna was very good!
