Residence Inn Miami Beach Surfside

We thoroughly enjoyed our room and thought the staff and location were great. We didn’t care for the extra fees or the fact that we wanted the bar to open later than 9 PM. The shower was also very slow to drain. Otherwise, great stay. Would recommend this stay for people going to North Miami.

This is a good hotel, and pretty convenient, so long as you know the limitations. First, the good: We stayed in a 1-bedroom suite. The furnishings are nice, and seem rather new, and the bathroom was also well equipped, clean, and well-maintained. The mattress felt a bit mushy, but that's what you can expect in many hotels. The air conditioning was able to keep up with the brutal 95+ temperatures outside, though a minor annoyance is that when we set the thermostat at 73 degrees, that every day it seemed to reset itself to 75 degrees. The hotel is about a two block walk from the Publix grocery store and plenty of other specialy shopping and restaurants, so we were able to avoid driving to buy needed supplies and to dine out. While the kitchen is well-equipped, the small dining table in the kitchen area is -very- wobbly. It seemed about ready to tip over. An interesting fact for those who care about such things, our suite was equipped with a recent model GE fridge with an OU sabbath mode. A quick google found the instructions to set it into sabbath mode. I don't know whether all the fridges in the hotel are the same model. Another surprising fact: our room was on the second floor, directly facing Collins Ave, with all its heavy traffic - I was worried about potential road noise. With the AC running, we barely heard any traffic noise at all, and I'm very sensitive to such noise. The limitations: Be aware that this hotel is not on the beach. Take a careful look at a map to see that you'll be walking a block to the public beach. The hotel will lend you chairs and beach towels, but there are no umbrellas to borrow, and we couldn't see any beach equipment rental companies anywhere up and down the beach. A google search shows that there are such companies in south beach, but I don't think they deliver to Surfside. So, you will most surely want to find a way to get some shade in the brutal sun. By the time we realized we needed a sun shade or tent or umbrella, it was too late to purchase one and have it delivered. Overall, this is a nice clean hotel, well maintained, and convenient to the Harding Avenue shops of Surfside. Just make sure to make arrangements in advance to get some shade on the beach.

Great breakfast

Didn't explain or honor the 2 vouchers we got upon arrival, despite discussing with manager, Mary Ann. All we got was "sorry - we can't do anything". We spoke with several people at the front desk and they pointed us to the pool. The pool said we could get the discount and pointed us to the front desk. It was a shell game.
