Stayed overnight at the Gubug Ndeso home stay while on a larger trip of eastern Java. We got placed in the family room a couple of floors above reception. Pros - Room was comfortable enough. Bed was ok. Didn’t have air conditioning but had a portable unit. Luckily it’s pretty cool at this altitude anyway. - Staff were very friendly as we find is the norm in Indonesia . - They served us breakfast in our room and it was good. - Room was clean. Cons - Wifi wasn’t the best. Did connect but quite slow. - The lock to our screen door leading to a communal patio was broken and so could be forced open if someone wanted to get in. - They are building something next door so there is a bit of noise from the construction. - Hot water worked but it kind of went from lava hot to freezing cold. Overall given most people’s itineraries in this area are to stay overnight, visit bromo and move on it’s a reasonable option for a budget conscious traveller. It isn’t however a place you would necessarily want to linger .
