Very nice hotel. Conveniently located to all Stone Town attractions. If there are any issues the front desk manager will do her best to rectify the situation. My only issue unfixable was the food or maybe It was the water they refill for the rooms. I recommend be on side of caution and drink only bottled water. Don't eat anything uncooked (salads juices made with ice etc.) And you won't spend most of your time in bathrooms.

Utterly enchanting- from our 5am arrival until our departure 3 days later we were looked after so incredibly well. The hotel organised our airport pickup and opened up with a gentle tap (you may need help to find it as it’s in the narrow streets of old Stonetown). The front of house was superb and Peter took care of us. The hotel has so much atmosphere, full of antiques and lush vegetation. Breakfast is in the roof balcony. Excursions can be organised. I had read a few unpleasant reviews but I can’t think why, cleanliness was first class and the hospitality was outstanding. I hope you are lucky enough to find a room - we stayed 3 nights it was so good.

I landed at Golden Tulip because Trip.com messed up my booking elsewhere, and I only found out about it at the last minute.
The location is right by the port, on a side of town that feels quite sketchy. However, Stone Town is small and safe, so it didn’t matter too much. The rooms are nice enough. They have everything you need. People are friendly all over Zanzibar, and at the Golden Tulip no less. The pool is lovely, and service is okay. Sometimes I had to ask more than once, phone down because my towel had disappeared, or guide them through my own bill.
The restaurant is pretty bad. I’m not a particularly fussy eater, but don’t feel the need to eat bad food. I ordered three tester dishes on my first day, and didn’t finish any. Another traveler had a similar experience. Breakfast is okay. There is fruit, yoghurt, pastries, omelettes on request, toast, cereal sometimes, and a variety of hot dishes. Nobody seems to notice when the table has no cutlery or when the coffee, milk or a given hot dish runs out. Most days, I found the cereal (if they had it), fruit, and at least one hot dish edible.

It happened to be living in the former residence of Queen's lead singer Freddie Mercury. It was really an amazing experience. The appearance of the hotel is good, but the internal facilities are average. The bed and pillows are not comfortable, and the breakfast taste is average. It is better than the good location and the experience of this wonderful celebrity's former residence.

Our stay at Dhow Palace in Stone Town, Zanzibar, was absolutely breathtaking! Although we only had one day there, I made the most of it and wished we had more time to enjoy this incredible place. The pool was out of this world, offering a perfect place to relax and unwind. The restaurant was fantastic, serving delicious food, and the staff were extremely helpful and accommodating. I have a core memory of reading by the pool (feet in) while drinking some incredible chai and having lunch. The location was ideal, close to everything we wanted to see and do in Stone Town. Dhow Palace is truly one of the nicest places I have ever stayed, and I would love to return for a longer visit.

There are not many places to go shopping in Stone Town on Sand Island. The rooms here are relatively small. If you think you want to live at this price level, there are a lot of surrounding areas, but the conditions are more general and the price/performance ratio is not very high. The hotels in Africa are generally better than those in Southeast Asia. It’s quite expensive. The table in the room is dusty. As a Hilton, I shouldn’t. It can be seen that this hotel spent a lot of money in the past, but the decoration is outdated. Only the bed and pillows are very comfortable, because on the island, there are still some Humid, the hotel has its own scent, but I don’t like it very much, and there is no swimming pool in this hotel

Antique hotel. On the path inside Stone City. Breakfast fruit buffet, coffee tea buffet. Breakfast order yourself. Mushroom beans are cooked. Egg queue. Bread toast. Very satisfied.
Radiotherapy is smaller. The hotel arranged a barge to pick up a tour to Guidao. Taxi is also arranged by the hotel. Cheap price.

The room was nice and clean. The service is quite good and proactive. The environment is great. There is also the only Chinese restaurant on Sang Island 300 meters away, which is very cost-effective. Recommended. However, the dolphin watching and prison island recommended by the hotel are relatively expensive, so if possible, look outside.

I had changed my plans to experience Stone Town at the end of my trip. I had chosen to stay at Verde Hotel but, whilst there, had a few regrets that I had not chosen a hotel right in Stone Town. As it happened, my flight ended up being cancelled and I had to spend an unexpected additional night in Stone Town so decided to book the Serena which I was quite excited about. It looked a lot more traditional than the Verde and more ‘quintessential Zanzibar’. First of all, they charge $40 for an airport transfer. Total rip off. Be aware of this. The Verde charged $25 and it’s much further away. Secondly, the rooms are very disappointing for the price you pay. Quite cramped and dark. I asked if I could change rooms as mine was the first on the corridor with no view at all. They couldn’t. Some of the staff on reception were more friendly than others but, overall, the reception service was poor. That said, Amina and ‘Big Joe’ were both lovely and very helpful. The pool area was nice and I enjoyed my swim after 8 hours stuck at Zanzibar airport going nowhere. It’s right by the sea so you get some great views of the ocean and the sunset. I dined in the restaurant - food (buffet) was good but the restaurant is quite hot. The worst aspect of this hotel was the noise at night. I woke up around 2am to someone shouting in the corridor outside my room. This went on for ages and I couldn’t get back to sleep. All in all, I wouldn’t recommend this hotel.

Excellent
I was fortunate to stay here in June for 3 nights and I have to say I am in love with not only Zanzibar and Stone Town but this small boutique hotel, more like a boutique guest house as you are made to feel welcome from the first step inside the beautiful front doors. The staff are all so friendly and welcoming and I managed to fit in a back and shoulder massage between exploring the city on my own and the tours that I had organised. As I was traveling alone I did most of my meals at the hotel as after long days it was easier to dine there and then relax on my room. The only issue that may be of concern for anyone that might have some difficulty with stairs is that there is no elevator / lift, so request a room on the lower floor but I have a knee issue and it was not too bad climbing to the second floor.
GGuest UserReally good service. Abdulaziz the manager provided first class service, and was extremely helpful and friendly and always checked on us at breakfast every day. The rooms are clean, the hotel is within stone town and close to a lot of the historical sites like the old palace, forodhani, darajani market and is a short boat ride to to prison island.
ひひろたまるIt's in a great location in the center of town. I was able to walk to anywhere in Stone Town.
The room I stayed in had one queen-size bed. It was a room, but it had no windows and was very dark, so I don't recommend staying in the room during the day. I don't recommend staying in the room during the day.
There was a turndown service, and they sprayed the room with nuts and insect repellent at night. Breakfast was included, but you could choose from three types, and it was very filling and very satisfying.
What a waste of money for a stay in stone town. The hotel is old, washroom pathetically dirty with rusted taps, room furniture old and not maintained. Our locker in the room didn’t work and even after repeated requests it was not repaired. We were given a choice to move to alternative room but they were of smaller size and with equally dirty washrooms. The breakfast is poor quality for the price paid and served in an open lobby without air conditioning. The hotel has not been renovated over the years and is now dirty. There was no hospitality professional and all issues were managed by a receptionist. Staff was not qualified, I’ll trained and definitely underpaid. Service was pathetically slow. Keep away as the online marketing and pictures of the hotel are misleading. We were a family with two kids and the kids were totally disgusted with the dirt in the room, washroom and over old furniture. Multiple complains were shamelessly ignored. The hotel is not even worth USD 50 a night. The worst experience in our post pandemic international travel.
GGuest UserBEYT AL SALAAM was superb. Aminia and team were the nicest people we have met. There kind assistance with all our plans and excursions made our holiday truly unforgettable. The room was tastefully decorated and spotlessly clean. A large comfortable bed with chrisp white linen and very comfortable pillows. It had an airconditioner, ceiling fan, tv and tea and coffee facilities. A nice indoor swimming pool
TRULY A GEM.
Thank you so much for making our holiday so memorable.
VvaalerWell, where to start, it's a budget hotel, it works, its central, breakfast is simple but ok, staff are always happy, wifi is stabil and works fine, we hd room 104....... if you don't mind a hotel next to as mosque then it great, we on the other hand didnt appreciate it and were woken up every morning at 5, would I recommend this hotel ? Yes I would, all in all there is no view and a mosque next door, but you get what you pay for, its cheap and works.rooms were clean and tidy, toilet was loose,....... so what for 30 bucks a night
GGuest UserI booked online with ************ and when I went to check in I was told the room wasn't available but they could offer me another one in another property for the same price. I had to drag my luggage there alone through the scorching heat, only to be led into a completely dilapidated house. Unfortunately, very intense artificial fragrances could not cover up the smell of mold. The room itself was musty, very small, shabbily furnished, with a shower cubicle right in the room next to the bed. There was no water coming out of the shower and the whole impression was just depressing. Incidentally, the employee was greeted there by some angry guests who complained, for example, about the running water not working/the shower not working, which the employee dismissed with sarcasm. Since this room had absolutely nothing in common with the fancy photos of Hiliki House, I rejected it, which was apparently met with understanding. I was told that bookings made via ************ are generally not considered binding, especially not if ”payment on site” was chosen as the payment method, not even if the booking is guaranteed with a credit card and cannot be canceled - so it's my own fault. But the best thing - even though I had rejected the alternative accommodation, the hotel apparently tried twice later to debit money from my credit card.
GGuest UserI booked my stay in Stone Town for 1 night as I had a late flight. It was really cheap and really easy. The rooms were clean and the staff (Abdullah) was very helpful in booking airport transfers for me and my friend. What can sometimes be a stressful time was made easy and quick because the staff booked reliable taxis and they also had grear knowledge of the area. I was a little worried when the check-in time was for 14:00 because we arrived at 12-noon. However, the staff got a room ready for us very quickly and we manage to be able to put away our luggage in a locked room giving us few worries. For the price this place is a steal!!
